Gun Dog Academy
For hunters looking for an efficient, responsive training program, our Gun Dog Academy (GDA) is the perfect choice. The GDA consists of 3 distinct concepts- obediece, mouth habits, and field proofing. Most dogs complete the GDA in 3 months. Please call or email us today for the free evaluation of your pet.
Below is an outline of the Gun Dog Academy Program

Month 1: Obedience
We begin with the training of a "complete sit". This comes with tireless repetition and reinforcement between trainer and dog to acheive the understanding that sit means sit.
We will then transition to a "complete here". "Here" is used to call the dog toward the handler (instead of come). This is considered the most critical portion of training.

Month 2: Mouth Habits
Once your dog completes the obedience portion, we will progress to properly teaching him/her how to hold a bird without chewing or dropping it. Dogs are naturally inclined to be "hard or soft mouthed". We will properly bring a balance to their tendancy by teaching how to hold an object firm enough, but not too firm (the Goldie Lox concept).
Month 3: Field Proofing
Now- your dog can hold onto birds and sit still, but can he do it with distraction?
We mesh the first two months of training into this final portion of the GDA by influencing your dog to different hunting scenarios. Cropland, high-cover, hay fields, brush, multiple dogs, etc. can pose a major distraction issue for your dog if not properly conditioned.
